Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah, is an American performer and actress. Her career as a musician actor, filmmaker and TV performer has earned her the distinction of two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also was awarded a Grammy Award as well as six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah's parents were Lancelot as well as Rita Owens, both members of the police force. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher, who taught in Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah was 10 years old. Latifah lived in the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah was her stage name at the time she reached the age of eight. It means fragile in Arabic. Latifah has always been tall, standing 5'10" and was the strong forward for her high school basketball team. In her high school's play, Latifah performed "Home" from The Wiz.
